Book Club House Rules

Get together with your potential book club members and set the group's ground rules. (You might want everyone's input; however, if you have set ideas of what you want, then set the rules with your core group and announce them at this first meeting). If you did not set the meeting time with your core group, do that now.

  • It is OK to disagree and have different opinion - All should share their viewpoints with respect.
  • The purpose of the discussion is not to convince others, but to learn by using inquiry to develop greater insights.
  • All approaches are valid. Book Club members are to look at their own business needs and environment to apply in a way most effective for their companies.
  • Keep on topic, but feel free to introduce information that is relevant to the discussion (historical facts, bio details, book background, related authors or topics).
  • Participants should mute their phone.
  • Book Club members are encouraged to continue the conversation via email, phone, etc.
  • Please respect the authority of the moderator.

Book Club Recipes

Hosting a book club and what to serve attendees to eat can seem over whelming, but it doesn't have to be. Foods that you can nibble on and keep discussions alive at the same time work great and are easy to prepare. You can put together a fabulous anti-pasto tray in no time with lots of different cheeses, meats, crackers and various veggies. Get the deli to slice the cheese and if really pressed for time, check out their premade deli trays. Another easy option is to slice up a loaf or two of French Bread and have various dips such as spinach artichoke, cream cheese with jalapeno jam, or hummus. An additional easy option are fresh and dried fruit with different cheeses (e.g., grapes, strawberries, figs, with gorgonzola and brie cheese). There are limitless easy options for the host or hostess. The choice is up to you and how much time you have to pull things together. I have yet to hear someone complain when a pizza is ordered.
